These examples are shared because they happened to Edmonton businesses—and because stronger renewal controls, documentation, migration planning and technical oversight could have prevented or significantly reduced the disruption.
A local business relied on another provider to manage its business email licensing. The renewal was missed, and employees discovered they could no longer access email. Messages from clients and suppliers could not be handled normally, and the disruption continued while the licensing and account situation was corrected.
AlphaIT had previously supported an on-premises Exchange environment that was operating reliably. After responsibility moved to another provider, a later update or configuration change caused the Exchange server to fail. The business then experienced an extended email outage while the environment was repaired.
Microsoft 365 does not remove the need for responsible administration. Licensing, identity, security, documentation, backup and change management still require clear ownership.
